Early in my professional career a manager reminded me of the importance of saying thank you. She told me, “Always say thank you to customers.” Those two words, when placed side-by-side, in spoken or written form, are powerful.

JohnStrubel.com is my platform to share what I love to do most — write. Despite its modest success in numbers, this blog, along with my professional media experience, has unlocked doors over the past decade. I have been able to travel to places I’ve never been, witness some great sporting events, interview athletes, managers and coaches. This blog enabled me to meet people I’ve watched, listened to and read over the years; people who’ve inspired me.

On many occassions I have been able to use my access to share experiences and stories with readers, which is what this blog post is all about — readers.

This blog has led me to a greater truth: friendship. Through my professional experience, access and JohnStrubel.com I have had the great pleasure of meeting and developing lifelong friendships with colleagues and readers. Measure that in Google Analytics. It’s an intangible that can’t be tracked or reported in click throughs. You — the reader — have challenged me; inspired me; encouraged me. Because of this, I am a better writer (I hope), a better listener and a better person.

I don’t know of any other job that has the ability to shape a person like journalism. The work has been rich with life and learning experiences. Being a reporter has shaped me personally and professionally (passion will do that to you, I guess). I am thankful for the knowledge and values my work has provided.

So, in staying true to what I learned a long time ago, I would like to say thank you.

Thank you for taking time to read my writing. Thank you for your support. Thank you for your feedback. Thank you for your criticism. Thank you for your loyalty. Thank you for your friendship.

I could never say it enough.

I wish you and your family a happy, healthy and safe Thanksgiving holiday.
