SNY.tv: Lacking resources or imagination?
Has it ever occurred to you that you know more about the person living 1,200 miles away than you do the person living across the hall, or across the street?
Community has been redefined. Before Al Gore invented the Internet, “community” was a grass roots term. Today, through technology, global communities exist. Sports is a perfect example. New York Mets fans in Flushing, New York are connecting with fans in Topeka, Kansas through blogs, social networks, etc.
Which brings me to this point, a rejoinder to Mike Silva’s New York Baseball Digest post “Catch the Rising Stars and Learn From It” which he noted: I hope Mets fans had a chance to either watch or DVR the latest “Yearbook” on SNY. Yesterday they aired the 1984 Mets which is a great way for fans to see how a championship team was born …
Hmmm.
Sorry to report, I did not see it – or any of the other Yearbooks on the programming schedule at SportsNet New York (SNY) — because I don’t have SNY.
I live in South Carolina. As a matter of fact, I may be the only Mets fan that lives in South Carolina, but I am not alone on this issue. There are Mets fans in Ohio, Michigan, Nebraska and Texas that do not have access to SNY.
SNY’s regional coverage is “limited to New York, Connecticut, northeastern Pennsylvania and parts of New Jersey,” according to SNY’s website. It’s a regional television network. That I understand.
But why, in 2009 and the YouTube age, is it not possible for SNY to offer pre-packaged programming selections on their web site? After the original airs on SNY, doesn’t it make sense to extend these programming features to Mets fans outside of the viewing area? Instead we’re limited to half-baked fan blogs, dated and third-party content.
When will the network wake up and realize there is fan base starving for Mets programming – outside the city limits and your affiliate list – and you have a way to connect and share your programming with them for pennies a year?
Leverage your web presence. Show some ingenuity. Create original content. Promote your flagship teams. Market your product. Connect with fans – everywhere.

Strubel ….. just picked up ur feed. Good to see you blogging about the Mets again. SNY is airing those Yearbook shows, but they’re just PR stuff, not very detailed or analytical. You’re not missing much bud ….. best-jay
